Kaya's Portfolio

When there are strengths there are weaknesses, while writing some of my weaknesses are obvious and some aren't. I would so my most significant weakness is sentence fluency, the flow of language is arguably what I struggle with most. On many occasions during revision I am confronted with a familiar choppy writing on the page. Lately, I've been using transition words and have applied them to text, although there is progress, my sentence fluency is far from perfection. Presentation is a simple problem that is seemingly easy to correct. Unfortunately, I make many mistakes with MLA format, such as correct date, works cited formation, and indentation. Luckily, being aware of the problem will only help me fix the issues. 

This freshman year I have surely developed some good writing traits. The first being, organization, the internal structure of the piece shows great significance to me, organization helps make sense of the writing. My organization in writing helps understand idea. The ideas, main messages, I convey are in depth and logical.  My word choice helps convey my ideas onto the page, with strong word choice my ideas are easier to convey. My strengths in writing have allowed for a more enjoyable writing experience.

I have learned many things as a writer this year. In the beginning of the year I could not even describe myself as a writer, I was a poor writer. I had a restricted vocabulary, only knew few literary devices, and had no transitions because I had no interest in writing. This year in English has been very enlightening because I have learned so much. I've finally discovered myself as an analytical/informational writer. I have made improvements in structure of work, grammar in general, and fluidity of the writing. I can happily claim that I have discovered myself as a writer.

I'm a writer who depends on self-confidence and trust in ability in order to write well. With self-confidence I can write freely and provide vivid detail. I prefer to write informational pieces because I can refrain from stating opinion. I also feel I can generate unbiased writing therefore making a bold, factual research paper. All in all, I feel my ability as a writer is restricted by my low confidence.

My writing center experience was fairly brief and was actually for this portfolio project. I was not confident in the page titled "About Me" and was hoping to get some strong revisions for the paper and apply the new knowledge to other papers. What I was hoping to revise was the grammar, fluidity of the work, grammar was the primary problem. My writing fellow, to my surprise, could not find a grammatical issue. What my writing fellow advised me to do was to give more about "me" as a student.
